Volunteers Field Calls for Victims Using the Joplin Tornado Info Facebook Page

Press Release

virtual pbx® and printsmadeeasy fight confusion from joplin devastation with volunteer support line

Volunteers Field Calls for Victims Using the Joplin Tornado Info Facebook Page

SAN JOSE, CALIF. (May 31, 2011) – – Located just outside of Joplin, Mo., PrintsMadeEasy is surrounded by chaos from the tornado disaster. In the wake of the storm, the print company’s employees could see that getting reliable information was a critical problem facing almost everyone, from victims to volunteers. They wanted to help by setting-up a support line, while volunteering their time and efforts.

Susie Matthews, online operations director at PrintsMadeEasy, decided to enlist the assistance of Virtual PBX (wto help the people of Joplin stay connected, using her relationship as a longtime customer.

Virtual PBX responded by providing PrintsMadeEasy with additional phone lines, a local number and automatic call distribution (ACD) queues to help manage the increase in inbound calls. The support line is used to answer questions about drop-off sites for donations, locations of volunteers and hospitals, and to take down missing-person updates. In conjunction with the PBX technology, volunteers are regularly updating the Joplin Tornado Info Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/joplintornadoinfo) with updated information for those affected by the devastating storms.

The line fields calls for the Joplin Tornado Info Facebook page that has been keeping Joplin people connected since the disaster occurred. The employees of PrintsMadeEasy are donating their off-work time to taking calls; they may be looking to add more volunteers as it becomes necessary.

“Because we’re so close to the disaster in Joplin, we did not want to just sit back and watch, especially since most of us are familiar with the places that were hit,” says Matthews. “Virtual PBX has been great by donating its hosted phone system, which has worked well for us in the past, along with a local number for people to call. We encourage anyone interested in joining us in our efforts to give us a call.”

Using Virtual PBX’s hosted phone service, Matthews can quickly and easily create additional extensions for volunteers. Virtual PBX’s hosted system allows calls to be redirected to any phones, anywhere, so PrintsMadeEasy and other volunteers can still make and receive calls even when they are on-the-go. Volunteers are currently working outside the affected area and can provide immediate responses.

“When a longtime customer calls asking for practical help to provide a vital service like their support line, the only reasonable response is ‘yes,'” says Paul Hammond, CEO of Virtual PBX. “After viewing the devastation, it’s heartening to know that we can provide assistance that makes a difference, and we’re grateful to Susie and her team for their hard work. We’re glad we could help.”
